Pup Portrait | Nikon Z6 | Sigma Art 135mm 1.8

What better to celebrate my lil pups birthday than to shoot with a brand new camera and lens. I’ve picked up the Nikon Z6 with the Sigma Art 135mm 1.8 and I have to say what a combo. If the Sigma 105mm 1.4 is known as the Bokeh Master, this lens should be the Bokeh McLicious. Everyone seems to think it’s heavy and it’s not that bad. Shooting the dog I did see a slight problem if you fucus on the nose the eyes are blurry at 1.8. That is to be expected as I was not that far. The background is not that busy which means its a very high quality bokeh. In the past I’ve shot with the Nikon 105mm 1.4 and thought this was the best lens ever made. At half the price those looking to get similar quality will not be unhappy with this lens at all.

First Portrait Session with the New Fuji X-T3

Taken with Fuji X-T3 with the Fujinon 50mm 2.0 Lens

Taken with Fuji X-T3 with the Fujinon 50mm 2.0 Lens

I’ve purchased the Fuji X-H1 about a month ago and to be honest it was not love at first site. Coming from the Nikon world, I was in the market for an amazing replacement camera that is light as well as professional. Rumors came out the Fuji X-T3 was about to be announced. The internets went wild speculating regarding specs and before you knew it, Fuji made an official announcement. I contemplated so much getting it that it game me extreme anxiety. I mean, how many cameras do I need?

Fast forward to present day and now this bad boy was in my hands. A client asked me to take pictures of her 17 year old daughter and I quickly grabbed my X-T3 and ran out the door. The first thing I noticed was the incredibly fast, lightening speed Auto Focus System. The face and eye detection was completely AMAZING!!! This is important for me as I’m always in suit shooting weddings and I’m laying on the ground to compose certain shots. Now with the flip screen and face detection I know my camera will get a sharp image on the face. Needless to say, the anxiety of this purchase quickly went away.

There is a caveat to this story however. Not knowing what I was going to get out of this camera so I re did the entire session with my Nikon D850. I have to tell you guys that both cameras are NIGHT & DAY. Two completely different style of shoots. I’d say the Fuji is for that Hipster look and the Nikon system is for those really punchy and high quality images. None the less, both are amazing.
